Bird Decanters

Mark Clarson and Jamie Randall have collaborated to produce a series of hand engraved glass decanters based on extinct birds.  Rooted in taxidermy, ethnography, and anthropology; these pieces share a direct symbolic connection with those of the natural history lexicon.  Influenced by the stylistic techniques employed by fine Victorian glassmakers, these wine decanters reference the very era in which many of these birds entered into extinction. The process of cameo engraving was at its height in popularity in the Victorian era. This series began with making extinct birds from the same era, but has now expanded to be making any extinct birds. Each piece has a uniquely hand designed engraved signature on the bottom because it’s important to us that the work is archival.
